CompTIA Security+ Quest

I decided the best way to learn more about cybersecurity and to improve as a System Admin/Ethical Hacker was to take the CompTIA Security+ Exam. I’m going to take the SYO-601 (at the time of this post the exam is just a few months old). I know more material exists for the SYO-501, but I wanted to look at this more as learning the latest and greatest and not an easy pass for an exam. I want to come out of this a better and more knowledgeable System Admin.

while I’m not sure if I will ever take on a full-time role in cybersecurity, I know the information I will learn will help in my career.

I’m currently reading Comptia Security+ SY0-601 Study Guide by SYBEX. A friend of mine loaned me his version for the SYO-501 and I enjoyed the content so much that I decided it was worth the money to get the newest version for the exam I am taking.

I’m also watching a video series by Professor Messer called Professor Messer’s SY0-601 CompTIA Security+ Course and a video series on Udemy by Jason Dion called CompTIA Security+ (SY0-501 & SY0-601). So far both video series has helped out a lot and I’m enjoying the content.

I’m thinking about taking the exam in March of 2021. This will depend on how I feel about each objective on the test and how I do on practice exams. I will say the digital book from Comptia is not the best resource in my opinion. The information is good, but the issue that I find ironic is the practice questions and answers don’t feel like they are exam material. By that I mean the book asks a question and the answer is 90% of the time a paragraph, while the exam is mainly multiple choice. This seems like a crude way to teach and just didn’t click with me.
